WINNER OF THE STAGE 3: JASPER PHILIPSEN
Belgian cyclist Jasper Philipsen won the third stage of the 57th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
The 121,8-kilometer Cesme-Izmir stage has been completed on the third day of the event, organized by the Turkish Cycling Federation under the auspices of the Presidency. 162 riders from 25 teams participated in the race.
Starting from the Cesme Castle which is located in Cesme district and built in 1508 during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezit II, the stage continued to Karaburun direction passing through Ildir. Heading to the Cesme-Izmir Road afterwards, cyclist turned from the Urla junction and went in the direction of Guzelyali. Later, the athletes who entered Izmir finished the race in front of Karsiyaka Pier.
Jasper Philipsen of the Belgian Alpecin-Fenix team clinged the stage victory with a timing of 2 hours 35 minutes and 19 seconds, after a great struggle of the sprinters.
Australian cyclist Kaden Alexander Groves from Australia's BikeExchange-Jayco team came in second and Spain's Miguel Fernandez Ruiz from Malaysia's Global 6 Cycling team came in third.
Completing the first 2 stages in second place, Philipsen took over the leadership in the general classification from Kaden Alexander Groves. The 24-year-old cyclist won his third stage victory in Turkey.
