SEPULVEDA WINS THE ‘QUEEN STAGE’!
Winning the "Queen Stage" that started in Izmir on the 4th day of the 57th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey and ended in Spil National Park, Argentinian Sepulveda from Italy's Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli team rose to the leadership of the general classification.
Organized by the Turkish Cycling Federation under the auspices of the Presidency, the Izmir (Konak)-Manisa (Spil) stage was left behind on the fourth day of the Tour of Turkey.
161 cyclists from 25 teams participated in the stage, which initiated with the start given by the Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu from Konak Square.
The athletes climbed to the Spil National Park at a height of 1,200 meters from an altitude of around 200 meters in the last 15 kilometers of the Queen Stage, which is known for its difficult climbs.
In the middle of the climb, a group of about 10 people broke off from the rest. Among these athletes, Argentine Eduardo Sepulveda, from Italy's Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli team, sprinted to finish at a distance of 4.5 kilometers to the finish line. For a long time, the difference remained above 20 seconds, while other athletes were trying to catch the finish line.
Sepulveda, who was not caught in the group of 6, crossed the finish line in the first place with a timing of 3 hours 48 minutes 38 seconds.
Coming 15 seconds after Sepulveda, New Zealand's Patrick Bevin from Israel-Premier Tech finished second and Belgian Harm Vanhocke from Belgium's Lotto Soudal team came in third.
