SAKARYA MTB CUP CONCLUDES
The races participated by 20 female athletes from 14 different countries and 50 male athletes from 16 different countries built excitement at Sakarya MTB Cup Races. Pedals stopped with the last day races and activities held at Sunflower Bicycle Valley.
Labelled with the slogan 'Pedal for a Cleaner World', the event was attended by Mayor of Sakarya, Ekrem Yüce, as well as the Governor, Ahmet Hamdi Nayar, Chairman of Turkish Cycling Federation, Erol Küçükbakırcı and the Vice President İrfan Çelik, Manager of the Projects under Presidency’s Aegis, Ali Murat Önder, Deputy General Director of Youth and Sports, Murat Kocakaya, Provincial Director of Youth and Sports, Arif Özsoy, Provincial Deputy Secretary General of Sakarya, Bedrullah Erçin, representatives of sponsors and many sports fans.
Giving the start of the elite men's category, Mayor Yüce and Governor Nayir presented the medals to the winning athletes and a plaque to the representatives of the organization sponsors.
After the award presentation, Mayor Yüce and Governor Nayir symbolically poured water into the well with the winning athletes for the countries suffering clean water scarcity in Africa.
The first day races held in Women and Men categories which 63 athletes sweat over, were complete thrill for the spectators. National Greek Team’s Ilias Periklis hit the peak at podium of Elite Men Category of UCI MTB Cup Marathon Series. As Michael Olsson from Serneke Allebike MTB came second, Sockeloen Cyling Club's Jasper Ockeloen finished the category third. Jennie Stenerhag of Falu CK – Abro won the Elite Women Category, as Moscow Uor2’s Guzel Akhmadullina came second and our national athlete Esra Kürkçü Akgönül finished third.
Spectators at Sakarya Sunflower Bicycle Valley watched a fun and magnificent cliff-hanger. Following the Janissary Band, folk dances, BMX and Birkan Polat motor shows, visitors relished the concert of famous singer Rafet El Roman.
Austrian cyclist Laura Stigger took the first place at Women Category of the last day race. As Guzel Akhmadullina finished the race second, Miho Imai came third. Cyclist in Men Category raced in the face of a keen competition. Martins Blums won the races which Metropolitan Municipality Sports’ Halil İbrahim Doğan and Oğuzhan Tiryaki pedaled as well. As Ivan Filatov came second, Martin Harring finished the race third.
