KADEN ALEXANDER GROVES WINS STAGE 2
Australian cyclist Kaden Alexander Groves won the second stage of the 57th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
The 158.4-kilometer Selcuk (Ephesus)-Alacati stage has been completed on the second day of the event, organized by the Turkish Cycling Federation under the auspices of the Presidency.
Starting in front of the Ancient City of Ephesus in Selcuk district of İzmir, 165 cyclists from 25 teams passed through Gumuldur, Seferihisar, Guzelbahce and Urla before they finished in Cesme-Alacati.
A sprint finish took place in the stage, which was held in difficult conditions due to heavy wind and rain. Australian cyclist Kaden Alexander Groves, from Australia's BikeExchange-Jayco team, won the race in the last 500 meters, in which he ran against important sprinters such as Sam Bennett, Jasper Philipsen and Caleb Ewan. Completing the stage in 4 hours 2 minutes 11 seconds, Groves took over the leadership of the general classification with this winning.
One of the ambitious athletes of the tour, Colombian climber Nairo Quintana from France's Arkea-Samsic team crashed into a spectator, 3 kilometers before the end. The star athlete, who was involved in an accident for the second time today, completed the race with his bicycle being replaced.
Jasper Philipsen from Belgium's Alpecin-Fenix team completed the race second and Irishman Sam Bennett from Germany's Bora-Hansgrohe team came in third.
