JOSE MANUEL DIAZ WINS THE QUEEN STAGE
Spanish rider Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego of French Delko team claimed the victory in the 5th stage of the 56th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
167 athletes attended to the 160.3-kilometer stage, which started from Doktor Derviş Eroğlu Street in Kemer district of Antalya. As a result of the huge accident took place on the previous stage, two athletes could not participate the stage today.
Winning three stages (Konya-Konya, Beyşehir-Alanya and Alanya-Kemer followingly) in a row, Mark Cavendish of Belgium's Deceuninck-Quick-Step team, wore the turquoise swimsuit in the Kemer-Elmalı (Göğübeli) stage as he ranked first in the general classification(GC) of TOUR, where the Nevşehir-Cappadocia stage was canceled due to heavy snowfall.
Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego won the stage which is mainly climbing and considered as a critical landmark in determining the general classification, with a timing of 4 hours 25 minutes 25 seconds.
In the fifth stage, Australian Jay Vine of Belgium's Alpecin-Fenix team came in second and Argentinean Eduardo Sepulveda of Italy's Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec team took the third place.
Triumphing the 5th stage of TOUR, Jose Manuel Diaz Gallego also captured the general classification leadership with an overall timing of 18 hours 38 minutes 27 seconds.
Thus, Mark Cavendish who won three stages in a row, dropped the turqoise jersey. Spanish rider Gallego will wear the leader’s turquoise jersey tomorrow’s Fethiye-Marmaris stage.
