RED BULL’S PILOT DARIO COSTA SETS WORLD RECORD!

Red Bull’s pilot Dario Costa set the world record for the Longest Tunnel Flown Through with An Airplane by passing through the Northern Marmara Highway, Çatalca T1 and T2 Tunnels in 43.44 seconds and took his place in the Guinness Book of Records.

In the flight, which lasted 43.44 seconds, the Italian pilot passed through the open-air gap between the two tunnels after making a masterful take-off in the first of the tunnels, which is completely surrounded by arched concrete walls. Reaching an average speed of 245 km/h in the second tunnel, Dario Costa successfully passed the second tunnel with his flight at an altitude of less than 1.6 meters.

His plane was exposed to side winds as Costa prepared to enter the low, narrow mouth of the second tunnel. Despite this, Dario Costa, who did not lose the control, completed his flight without mistakes and celebrated his success by performing a 360-degree turn. With this success, Dario Costa had set a certified Guinness World Record for the Longest Tunnel Flown Through with An Airplane.

Flying only 110 to 140 cm above the ground due to the limited height in the tunnel, Dario Costa successfully managed to flashed through a narrow distance of approximately 4 meters between the two wing tips and the tunnel walls.

Costa was mentored by an aviation legend and Red Bull’s athlete Péter Besenyei of Hungary, in the Tunnel Pass project.

Entering the Red Bull Air Race Challenger Class and becoming the first Italian pilot to win, Dario Costa won the top category of the Italian Aerobatic Championship in his age 41. With over 20 years of flying experience and countless aviation achievements, Costa has spent more than 5,000 hours in the air to date.
